Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 5, 2026
Introduction
At Melt.ly, we prioritize the privacy and security of our users. This Privacy Policy outlines the minimal data we collect, how we use it, and the measures we take to protect your information. Our philosophy is simple: we only collect what is strictly necessary to provide our service, and we do not sell your data.
Chrome Extension Privacy
How the Extension Works
The Melt.ly Chrome Extension works on any website. When you open the extension:
- Manual Input: You can paste any LinkedIn profile URL into the extension from anywhere (email, CRM, search results, etc.)
- Auto-Populate Feature: If you happen to be viewing a LinkedIn profile when you open the extension, it can automatically populate the URL field for your convenience. This requires permission to access the current tab’s URL.
We do not track your browsing history or automatically collect URLs from websites you visit. The extension only processes LinkedIn profile URLs that you explicitly choose to analyze.
Permissions & Data Access
The extension requests the following permissions:
- activeTab: To automatically populate the LinkedIn profile URL field when you’re viewing a LinkedIn page
- scripting: To extract the current page URL for auto-population and to check if you’ve previously analyzed this profile
- storage: To store your authentication state, API credit balance, and cached generation history locally in your browser
- cookies: To maintain your logged-in session across browser sessions
- Host permissions (linkedin.com): To enable auto-population and display your previous generation history when viewing LinkedIn profiles
Local Browser Storage
The extension stores the following data locally in your browser:
- Your authentication token (to keep you logged in)
- Your current API credit balance (for quick reference)
- Recent generation history cache (for performance and to show you if you’ve previously analyzed a profile)
This data remains on your device and is only used to improve extension functionality and user experience.
Data Collection & Usage
Account Information
When you sign up, we collect your email address and name. This information is used to create and manage your account. Authentication is handled securely via Supabase.
LinkedIn Profile URLs
When you use our service, you provide LinkedIn profile URLs for analysis. We collect and store:
- The LinkedIn profile URLs you choose to analyze
- When you analyzed each profile
- How many times you’ve analyzed each profile
This data allows you to review your generation history, see if you’ve previously analyzed a profile, and access past talking points and icebreakers. Important: We only collect LinkedIn URLs that you explicitly submit. We do not track your general browsing activity.
Generated Content & History
We store the output generated by our AI service: talking points, icebreakers, timestamps of each generation, and your API credit balance usage. This enables you to review past generations and manage your account effectively.
Third-Party Services
Supabase: For authentication and secure database hosting. (Email, name, credentials)
Automation & AI Processing: Our n8n automation pipeline orchestrates content generation through third-party AI model providers. They process data solely to fulfill requests and do not use it to train models.
Stripe: For secure payment processing. We do not store complete payment card details.
These providers do not use your data for their own marketing, tracking, or unrelated purposes.
Payment Information
If you purchase credits, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card information, but we retain transaction records for billing and support.
Cookies & Analytics
We are committed to a privacy-first analytics approach.
No Third-Party Tracking: We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixels, or other invasive tracking technologies.
Plausible Analytics: We use Plausible for privacy-focused website analytics. It does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and provides only aggregated, anonymous insights.
Functional Cookies Only: We only use strictly necessary cookies to maintain your logged-in session, track usage limits, and enable core security functionality.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures: encrypted SSL/TLS connections, secure servers with restricted access, and encrypted authentication credentials. We regularly review our security practices.
Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide services, comply with legal obligations, or resolve disputes. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data from active databases (backups may retain data for fraud prevention).
Your Rights
- Access & Correction: Update your info in your application settings.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data by contacting us at [email protected].
- Data Portability: Export your generation history from your dashboard.
- Opt-Out: Opt out of non-essential communications anytime. We don’t send marketing emails without consent.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this policy.
Children’s Privacy
Melt.ly is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Contact us immediately if you believe we have.
